Seven Steps to Health

Step 1 Say NO to processed, refined & artificial foods

Start reading those labels, especially the list of ingredients. Consider this:  what kinds of processing have been done in order to get your product into the form it is now? Do you still want it? Your goal this week is to eliminate additives as much as possible & to remember, whole foods don't have labels, then you don't even need to worry about reading them!

Step 2 Eliminate The White Stuff, yes... that means processed sugar

Many people are addicted to this tasty poison. Think of this step as a food adventure into local raw honey, pure maple syrup, agave, & other natural sweeteners like coconut, dates, and even carrots.  Lots of great recipes use natural sweeteners.

How about considering fruit!? We have lots of delicious fruit to tempt you!

Step 3 Drink Plenty of Water

Our bodies and the planet are made up from mostly water, so its good to be enjoying some water through out the day. Drink as much as you 'feel' is right for you.
Here's a few tips to increase your hydration:
Enjoy more soups
Fruit & Vegetables offer a boost too.
Add a slice of lemon or lime to your glass.
Try with a sprig of mint.
Add a few drops of high quality essential oils like - lemon, mint or grapefruit.
Say Cheers!!

Step 4 Go ahead - snack!

Eating frequently instead of waiting until you're so hungry you'll grab anything keeps  blood sugar levels normal & brain chemistry in balance. Isn't that just the best news?!

Here's a couple of tips:

  • Have a corner in the fridge reserved for good-for-you nibbles. Wash some carrots or celery sticks, cherry tomatoes, capsicum, peas, or straight from your fruit bowl - mandarins are great right now, bananas & apples all make for great snacks.
  • Try some dips with your cut up veggies we love our Organic Indulgence range
  • Dates make a great little snack too, low GI & super good for you!
  • Make sure you really are hungry before reaching for a snack, sometimes a glass of water is all you need!

Step 5 Get Moving!

Moving frequently instead of sitting will help your circulation, your fitness & your mood :)

It's best to do an hour or more of moving each day, you can really benefit if you can get your heart rate up too. It's really not that hard as it can be spread over the whole day, a few minutes here, half an hour there...

Here's a few ideas:

  • Take your own or your neighbour's dog for a walk or your own lol
  • Learn a new skill – skating, skipping, surfing, bike riding, frisbee or snorkelling… can you do all of them?
  • Try a new sport with friends or family… ever tried volleyball? soccer? badminton even...
  • Take a gymnastics or martial arts class.
  • Learn a dance-style, like hip-hop.
  • Check out the activities at your local recreation centre, club or youth centre.
  • Of course there's always yoga - makes you feel so gooood :)

Step 6 Get into some Vitamin C, antioxidants & more!

These emerald delights contain numerous phytonutrients as well as well known vitamins and minerals that promote your health. Even more than an excellent source of vitamin C, Kiwifruit has vitamin K as well as a very good source of copper and dietary fibre. It is also a good source of vitamin E, potassium, folate, and manganese. Packed with more vitamin C than an equivalent amount of orange, this nutrient is the primary water-soluble antioxidant in the body, neutralizing free radicals. The bright green flesh of the kiwifruit speckled with tiny black seeds adds dramatic tropical flair!

A Few Quick Serving Ideas:
  • Kiwifruit are so delicious, they can be eaten as is. One of our favourite ways to do so is to peel with a paring knife and slice.
  • Add kiwifruit to tossed green salads.
  • Serve sliced kiwifruit and strawberries, fruits whose flavours are naturally complementary, together for a bonus dose of vitamin C

Step 7 Listen to yourself & then be kind :)

Many people agree how we talk to ourselves has an impact on our lives.

Are we our own best friends? Offering encouragement & acknowledgment.

Or are we our worst critics, ready to pounce with judgement & critical thoughts?

Well... It's your brain, right?!

So next time you might like to interrupt the automatic negative response & replace it with

your choice of kindness, encouragement & love. Sound good?!  Hooray!

That's it our 7 steps to health.
